About Us |
Ma-Niketan takes care of children, which are from the cesspool
and slums from in and around Mumbai where poverty, lack of education
and sanitation are more of a rule than of being an exception.
This of course exposes the little ones to all kinds of illnesses.
Lack of education and poverty also forces many adults to abandon
their children, especially the girl child, at a very tender
age. Moreover there are also children who have for years established
homes on the footpaths, railway platforms and all other such
places.
Such children find a home in the Ma Niketan. We try to cater
to their needs - intellectual, emotional, social and economical
- and help them grow as mature and responsible citizens.
Today the Niketan has been fortunate enough to house 350 girls,
from 3 years onwards till 22 years, in 4 houses within the premises
of the society. |

|
Ma Niketan was possible with the support of Shri Mafatlal Mehata,
Diwaliben Mohanlal Mehta charitable Trust who has been an instrument
in giving birth to this home, by donating a piece of land in
the year 1972. |

Our Vision |
|
Ma Niketan seeks to commit itself to listen and to love, to
share and to care, to bring up all the residents by giving them
education, leadership skills, professional training, job opportunities
and health and value education. |

Our Aim |
We at Ma Niketan aim to concentrate on the education of the
residents. Here we nurture them to blossom into mature women
as they experience the love, warmth and the feeling of security.
This helps them grow emotionally and spiritually.
As they complete their academic studies they are guided according
to their talent and aptitude so that they choose the right professional/vocational
training like general nursing, hotel management, IT, fashion
or jewellery designing.
These children grow with dignity and courage to face the world
as responsible adults. Moreover we assist them to stand on their
own feet for a better future and attain self-sufficiency in
life. |

Our Team |

|
Nowadays we are 9 sisters. Besides the academic studies we also
take care of children's overall growth and development. Here
they learn Indian music, dance, singing, painting, stitching
and embroideries etc. We teach them games, gardening and cooking.
Time to time we conduct different games and competitions, like
talent contests etc. |
